Another $199 smartphone: Google Android teams up with HTC

I guess by now you would know that the HTC smartphone dubbed the HTC Dream running on the Google Android platform will be announced on September 23rd. It has been reported that this all new smartphone from HTC will be launched at a price of $199 - pretty much on the lines of Apple's iPhone launch price.

"AT&T Inc, the only U.S. operator selling Apple Inc's iPhone, set the price of the latest version at $199 in July, setting a benchmark for smartphones that can surf the Web, manage email and other multimedia features."

Obviously all other smartphones will have to compete against the benchmark set by Apple's iPhone. I'm pretty sure that Google Android phones are going to give the Apple iPhone a run for its money - but is the HTC Dream good enough? Going by my own previous experience with HTC, I would think it might not have the robustness that is pretty much the forte of Apple's iPhone. But then again, let's wait and see!
