GPS in your Nike shoe: Thanks to Apple

An all new 20 page patent filing from Apple has been uncovered. This could be the future of all Nike+ shoes which would have the ability to monitor the performance of an athlete better as it would be able to provide feedback on a real time basis. And yeah, advertisements could be served as well. Oh well, time to get used to it.

"More specifically, the system aims to more precisely track a runners performance over a period of time by factoring in various physical characteristics of the runner, such as age, weight, and gender, which could then be used to evaluate the runner's performance against a reference performance typical of a person having similar physical characteristics."

The system is also able to keep track of the shoe's durability and alert the athlete when the shoe is being worn out. This apparently is supposed to minimize injury to the runner. I don't know about you, but the only way I wouldn't know my shoe is worn out is if I wasn't wearing them!

Anyway the cool thing about this patent is that it is supposed to come with an accelerometer in the Nike+ shoe which will be able to plot the route history as well. You might want to get one before going out on that binge session with your mates!
