Jabra is a well known brand in the wireless bluetooth headset arena. In today's post we will focus on one of their best selling bluetooth headsets: the Jabra BT8040 Wireless Bluetooth Headset. This bluetooth headset packs quite a number of features and is priced nicely as well. This would be a good fit for everyone and with the back to school season approaching, this bluetooth headset should be on your list as well. It is also a must-have for on the go professionals.
The Jabra BT8040 has a simple yet sleek design. It has some really nice features like:
- Able to connect to 2 bluetooth devices simultaneously

The Jabra BT8040 isn't very flashy, but still looks good. It is wrapped in matte black with streaks of silver and has a nice look to it. Measuring 2.54 inches long by 0.71 inches wide by 0.47 inches deep, the BT8040 has smooth tapered sides and slightly curved edges on the top and bottom. A small dimpled circle in the middle acts as the multifunction call button, while two raised slivers on the top left and right act as the volume controls. The multifunction button is easy to press, even when the headset is worn and this is a really nice feature. The volume controls felt a bit stiffer, but they are easy to press as well. A small LED indicator sits on top of the volume controls.
If you flip the headset over and you'll find an ear tip made up of a gel-like substance. Jabra calls this the comfort Ear Gel tip, and it's designed to fit comfortably in the ear without the need for an ear hook or ear loop. The BT8040 comes with three different-size ear tip covers for different-size ears. Its almost like a custom fit for your ears.
It is probably the only mono Bluetooth headset that actually supports A2DP, meaning that it can stream music wirelessly. Most A2DP devices on the market today are stereo Bluetooth headsets or portable speakers. But then why would you want to stream music on a mono Bluetooth headset? Well the answer is simple - the music streaming is just a bonus on this Blutooth headset whose primary function is to pair with your mobile phone. So if you are not serious about music streaming, you should definitely consider this model.
Aside from the A2DP support, the BT8040 has MultiPoint technology, which not only lets you pair up to 8 devices, but it also lets you connect to two of them simultaneously. Therefore you can use the same headset with two cell phones at the same time if you so choose. It also has an intelligent call handling feature that interrupts music when there's an incoming call. Other features include answering, ending, and rejecting calls; auto pairing; voice command support; last number redial; mute; a quiet mode; call hold/call wait support; plus a low battery status indicator.
The Jabra BT8040 has a rated battery life of 6 hours of talk time and 8.3 days.

I have to admit that I bought a Samsung in-ear bluetooth headset a year or two ago and despite the "gel" earpiece, it still felt weird to use. Whilst it didn't look as cool I ended up attaching the plastic "behind the ear" clip which made it fit far snugger in the end. Do you happen to know if the Jabra has this additional fitting?
tyt, although you could buy the gel earpiece for the BT8040, I have not come across a "behind the ear" clip as you have mentioned year. I'll update this post if I come across such an accessory.
