WiFi Photo Frame from Sony - Sony VAIO VGF-CP1

Sony has recently announced a wireless digital photo frame. The Sony VAIO VGF-CP1 was unveiled during the CEDIA EXPO. Since this wireless digital photo frame is WiFi enabled, it is able to stream pictures from a Sony VAIO PC. Not only that, but it can also connect to Picassa online photo album and display the pictures in the album too.

The Sony VAIO CP1 comes with a 7-inch 800×600 LCD display that offers 16 million colors. VAIO CP1 offers also Internet radio player, RSS reader and integrated stereo speakers. It has 128MB internal storage and supports Memory Stock, SD card as well as Compact Flash (CF) cards.

This product is expected to retail at $299 sometime in October this year. I'm not convinced this digital photo frame is worth the price tag. What happens if my internet connection is down? Do I need to turn on my WiFi router all the time? And what about my PC - do I need to keep it turned on whenever I'm streaming a picture to the photo frame? I just don't get it! Do you?

I know right? With the high price of this item, they should think of that first.

I think more and more net gadgets are moving towards assuming you have an always-on home wifi cloud. Personally mine is off when my PC is so for me at least this might not stack up. Anyone else?
