Motorola's new phone wants your old plastic bottles

Next time when you throw you used plastic bottle into the recycle bin think about this - that bottle could just give birth to a new phone in Motorola's production line. No, I'm not kidding! Motorola has in fact unveiled the world's first mobile phone which is made from recycled plastic bottles. Looks like since Motorola hasn't been able to offer any innovation in terms of technology, the marketing team has taken over to give a new image to its phones.

The Moto W233 Renew is described by Motorola as the "world's first carbon neutral mobile phone." Because it is based on recycled plastics, Motorola said today that 20% less energy is needed to produce the phone, compared to the standard plastic process. To further the green theme, the Renew will come to customers in a box that is reduced in size, and with brochures printed using vegetable-based inks on 100% post-consumer recycled paper.

Device specifications or price details are not available just yet. But will consumers care? I mean, would you choose the Motorola W233 over similarly priced Nokia or Sony Ericsson just because it is made from recycled plastics? C'mon moto - show us what this baby can do!

Eee PC T91 sports a touchscreen as well!

Another touchscreen post for today! And it's Asus again! Asus has announced its low cost T91 netbook which sports a swiveling touchscreen as well. The new Eee PC T91 has a rotating display that can be spun 180 degrees and folded down as well. An old concept when it comes to swivels, but something new for netbooks especially the part about the touchscreen.

Even though this netbook is still only powered by the Intel Atom processor and Windows XP, Asus has still managed to pack quite a few features in the netbook. It comes with a built in GPS antenna, a TV tuner and an FM transmitter. I am thinking if Asus is moving away from the concept of a true netbook which was solely intended for doing emails and surfing the web. We don't have any details on pricing yet, but if Asus manages to keep the retail price cheap enough then I guess we will all be getting one soon.

Asus offers Eee touchscreen keyboard

Touchscreens are making their presence felt everywhere - right from cell phones to PCs. Now it looks like touchscreens are also making an entry into the keyboard market segment. Asus has announced a new Eee keyboard which is the perfect companion for your PC featuring wireless HDMI, a mini secondary touchscreen and is a fully functional PC. Impressive!

Although this has been written off as a concept, its quite possible that this keyboard will make its way to the market pretty soon. Imagine owning one of these which doubles up as a home theater PC as well! Yes, I'm beginning to like this idea and would surely buy one when its launched. No word on specifications just yet, but looking at the picture sure wants to make me drool all over it.

Digital Photo Frames being replaced by LCD TVs?

LG has recently announced a 47-inch digital photo TV which will display a static picture of your choice when the TV is in standby mode. You can choose to display any picture you like and if you are the type who hangs the TV on the wall, perhaps this is the best time to show off that great picture you took of the sunset during your vacation to the tropical islands.

I'm sure you will save the effort of hammering a nail to the wall but how many TVs can you buy? I'm pretty sure that the digital photo frames are way cheaper than an LCD TV. Anyway, LG also claims that the Digital Photo TV's power consumption is only around 10 to 15% of the level consumed while actually watching TV. This is achieved by leveraging the panel's idle memory instead of external memory attached to the set when used in digital photo mode. And yes, LG will be showcasing this Digital Photo TV during this week's CES.
